How to choose a saltwater fishing reel

Choosing the proper rod can be difficlut - there are currently thousands on the market.  Hopefully we can make the process alittle easier.  To start with, there are two types of reels

Baitcasting reels

• Baitcasting reels are generally for a more experienced angler.
• They tend to work with the weight of bait or lure, to allow line to feed out, turning the spool (the portion of the reel that holds the line).
• This type of reel will allow you to be more accurate in your casts, but requires practice.
• Baitcasting reels are preferred by many experienced fishermen for fighting big game fish over extended times.
• The primary complaint about these types of reels is the tendency to cause "hairballs", that is when you go to cast, the line runs out too fast, and quickly knots around the reel.

Spinning reels

• This style of reel is more forgiving for a newbie.
• A spool stays stationary, line is released by moving a metal wire called a bail.
• As you reel in your line, the bail moves around the spool, wrapping line around it.
